Your questions about Panthera LIFE retirement planning and more.
Where are Panthera LIFE planning meetings held?
Face to face meetings are held at my home garden office which can comfortably accommodate up to 4 people. Online meetings are carried out using Zoom or Teams.
How long do meetings last?
This really does depend on the flow of the conversation. I do not clock watch, but they typically last between 1 and 2 hours.
Can I see you in the evening or weekends?
I am available for 2 evenings a week (not Fridays) and the last time slot for meetings will be 6pm. I do not work weekends.
I’m a teacher, can I see you at my school?
Yes, if you are not able to come to my office or use zoom. I will travel within 1 hour of my office in Waterlooville.
Are you available during the school holidays?
Yes. I now have the pleasure of not having to travel in school holidays! Hazel and I do like to travel, and I do believe in being able to work anywhere, but real down-time is also important to recharge.
What is the difference between a Retirement Coach and a Financial Adviser?
Both can help you plan for your retirement years but have a different approach:
- A Certified Professional Retirement Coach provides clients with mental, emotional, and financial guidance through retirement planning. Some of the challenges they identify and tackle are; adjusting to a new lifestyle, accepting physical limitations, staying healthy and active, maintaining a fulfilled life, and managing finances during retirement.
- A Financial Adviser is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to give ‘advice’. You can expect an adviser to provide specific product recommendations whereas retirement coaches aren’t regulated in the same way and don’t provide product guidance.
A Retirement Coach will charge for their time either on an hourly basis or packaged programme. A Financial Adviser will typically charge a fee related to the investment/product you buy, and many have minimum investment and fee amounts.

What makes you different?
I have over 30 years of experience as a regulated financial adviser that specialised in retirement planning. My knowledge of how the pension and investment world works allows me to discuss the options available to you.
Many financial advisers do not provide the coaching skills that I can bring to the table. Also, Financial Coaches do not necessarily have the experience of the regulated advice role and pensions. I have experience in both and have created a service that allows to build a strong financial plan and navigate the non-financial elements of mid-life.
I cannot sell you a product so have no conflict of interest.
Can you advise me on transferring my pension or setting up a new investment?
The simple answer is NO. I do not provide regulated financial advice. I can educate and provide guidance into the options available. Some people are able to go on and manage their own plans without advice.
I am a teacher and want to discuss my plans. Does my partner need to be involved?
Generally, yes. When we talk about your life in retirement, it is very likely it will be with your partner. So, understanding both of your thoughts and aspirations for life is essential. Whether you retire at the same time or not, many couples have some adjustments to make when together 24/7.
However, if you just want to understand your Teachers Pension then this is something I can help you with without your partner.
I just want to know if I can afford to retire. Do I need a coach as well?
The financial aspect of retirement is the core of planning. Some number crunching on your lifestyle and what you have in place will determine if you can afford to retire and how long your money will last.
The coaching element is not compulsory as it is a different conversation and more beneficial the nearer you are to retiring and soon after.
Can you help me understand my pension and other financial paperwork?
Yes, I can help you understand the financial jargon and paperwork that you receive from various pension providers, investment companies or employer pension schemes. This would be on a one-off fee basis.
